It has been FAR too long since I've been on this blog. Today however I took some time and completely re-did this thing from top to bottom- even renaming it! Time to focus more on the experiences and lessons and craziness that is being a Mom, a wife, a daughter, a student, an employee, a sister, a citizen, a person, a human being, a blond, an idiot -all of it!
Tomorrow is Easter 2013. Time for the kiddos to wake up tomorrow morning, tear through their baskets full of goodies-leaving messes where ever they go, Easter egg hunt, get "hopped" up on some sugar, get dressed, head to church, hit the dreaded sugar crash (throwing them into the sweaty, tired, whiny mess mode), then back home to eat and have more candy and ride that sugar-high out right until bedtime. Awesome.
Speaking of Easter I have to share my bright idea of reading my oldest son Roman his copy of the Children's Edition Bible, which is approximately 60 pages and frankly should also be published as the "The Bible: For Dummies" because this book gets right down to the basics and for someone like myself who didn't grow-up Catholic- this book is fantastic. I have read this children's bible to Roman numerous times and it seems that each time I do he asks simple questions about the text and tends to end up disinterested by the end. Last night however in honor of this holy holiday that is upon us I decided it would be nice to read it again, and this is the story of how Mom changed the story of the bible for the sake of saving her son from a sleepless night full of stress and nightmares:
The Story of Moses
Anyone who is familiar with Moses knows that he was sent down the river by his mother who was in danger and he was eventually found by the princess who raised him as her own. (Give or take a few hundred details)
Last night I read this condensed three page version of the story to Roman who suddenly says, "Mom! Mom wait!" Holding his hand on the page to prevent me from turning it, "Why did his Mommy send him away?"
Me: "Because she felt she and the baby were in danger."
Roman: "Where did the baby go?"
Me: "Down the river to the princess to live with her."
Roman:"Why didn't his Mommy want him anymore?"
Okay- I'm stopping there because the relentless questioning as to why a mother would ever think to send her baby down a river to live with someone else was unfathomable to my son and he could not let go of the subject for what felt like an eternity.
Roman whimpering and almost in tears for poor baby Moses: "Ohh...Mommy...the poor baby. His Mommy didn't want him and so this lady took him?"
Me, seeing the hurt on my son's sweet face and wanting to protect his fragile mind: "No, no no... she didn't take him. That Mommy (I pointed at the picture) felt like she was in danger...so she put her baby in a basket and she sent him down the river. This lady, (I pointed to the princess) she called later on and was like- 'Hey Lori,(because the cartoon lady looked like a Lori) it's me Princess... hey, I just wanted to let you know I found Moses floating down the river again. Is everything okay?' And the Mom was like, 'Thanks Princess, yes everything is great now. I'll be by in a few to pick Moses up. Thanks a lot for watching him for me!' See Roman, just like a babysitter. The princess was just watching Moses for his Mommy."
Roman: "Ohh...okay! That's a funny story!"
Me: "It is isn't it."
He smiled and his mind was eased before his bed time...
Call it right or wrong....I slept pretty damn good last night.
Happy Easter! <3 p="">3>
